The extensive grounds are located approximately 70 km from Baotou and were once the residence of the most powerful Lama in Inner Mongolia. The spacious complex includes 6 monastery halls and 2,538 rooms. Built during the Ong Dynasty in the style of the Tashihunbu Monastery in Tibet, the Wudangzhao Monastery is the only completely preserved Tibetan monastery in Inner Mongolia.
